BERLIN, IRVING. (1888-1989). Russian-born, American songwriter. SP. (“Irving Berlin”). 1p. Small 4to. N.p., N.d. To “Sam.” [American cartoonist and photographer Sam Hinerfeld.] A beautifully signed black-and-white portrait from NBC, showing Berlin playing the piano as he looks directly into the camera. “Perhaps the most versatile and successful American popular songwriter of the 20th century,” Berlin published more than 1,500 songs, the most famous of which are the enduring classics Alexander’s Ragtime Band, God Bless America and White Christmas. Berlin’s works were often performed on the radio and NBC Radio made recordings of a number of Berlin hits including Cavalcade of Irving Berlin Hits, 1910-1915 in 1934 and Alexander’s Ragtime Band in 1939.

Photograph is mounted onto a stiff photographer’s board which has been slightly trimmed; in excellent condition.
