Extremely prolific, Steinlen’s illustrations often appeared in Gil Blas, Le Rire and other French magazines. His subjects included women with children, vagabonds, the area around his home in Paris’ Montmartre neighborhood, nudes, and, most famously, cats. It is for his poster for Montmartre’s cabaret Le Chat Noir that he is best remembered.

Andersen’s The Snow Queen is among his most popular stories and has been illustrated by numerous artists since it was first published in 1844. The story is the inspiration for the 2013 award-winning Disney movie Frozen. Our drawing has been affixed to a larger stiff board. Some rippling and scattered toning. In very good condition. Framed.
